VIN decoder · Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram
Decode a VIN to its factory build
Enter a VIN to see how that exact vehicle left the factory: engine, transmission, axle ratio, GVWR, colors, original MSRP and options. You also get its tow ratings and a link to its model year's specs, maintenance schedule and manuals. Handy for Southeastern used-car shoppers checking what a listing really has.
VIN decoder questions
Where does the decoded information come from?
From official records only: the manufacturer's VIN data filed with NHTSA, and the window sticker and build sheet that Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram publish for each VIN on their own websites. We then match the build to our model-year research and the manufacturer's towing charts.
Where do I find my VIN?
On the driver's side of the dashboard, visible through the windshield; on the label in the driver's door jamb; and on the title, registration and insurance card.
Why is there no window sticker for some VINs?
The manufacturer only keeps stickers online for certain years and retail vehicles. Older, fleet and some commercial vehicles return the build sheet and government decode without a sticker.
How accurate are the tow ratings shown?
They're the rows of the manufacturer's towing chart that match the VIN's engine, drive, cab, bed, axle ratio and GVWR. When several rows still match, all are shown. The tire and loading label on the vehicle has its exact payload as built.
Do you store the VINs people look up?
No. The lookup runs when you press Decode and nothing is saved to an account or database.
